Whenever I would go to life drawing class I would want the model to be overweight. There was such freedom in loosely drawing the contours and curves of the model. I found that the sumo was a perfect subject to revisit the organic fleshy bodies I drew in college. These behemoths became the catalyst for my imagination to take me to the surreal scenarios you see depicted. The graphic quality to these pieces can be attributed to my love for comics, my knowledge of photoshop and my trusty wacom tablet let me explore color, themes and compositions I would not have otherwise attempted on paper.
